Laser Hair Removal FAQ:
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser — an intense, pulsating beam of light — to remove unwanted hair.
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth. Laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair.
Although laser hair removal effectively slows hair growth, it doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. It typically takes multiple laser hair removal treatments to provide an extended hair-free period. Periodic maintenance treatments might be needed as well. -Mayo Clinic
Does laser hair removal hurt?
While most patients feel little to no pain, there is always a chance that it could hurt. Most patients describe the feeling to be that of a rubber band snap. All staff at Spice Wellness & Medspa have had this treatment performed on themselves so they know exactly what it feels like and are able to talk you through the process.
Can you get laser hair removal if you have a tan?
The laser hair removal treatment cannot be performed on any person that has recently been tanning. You must wait two weeks before and after using a tanning bed, spray tanning, or prolonged sun exposure.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Typically you will need at least six laser hair removal treatments to see results. Each treatment is performed four to six weeks apart. We have found that most patients need more than six treatments to see prolonged periods with no hair. Additional treatments may be necessary. Results vary from patient to patient.
